The beach, the Glen and Victoria Road
Places and facts checked in October 2026, with sources at the bottom of the page. Opening hours and routes change: check before you go.
Camps Bay and Bakoven, which the City records as one suburb, run along Victoria Road between Clifton and Llandudno, with the Twelve Apostles rising behind and Lion's Head to the north. Camps Bay is the busy beachfront strip with houses climbing towards Camps Bay Drive, while Bakoven, at the southern end, is a quieter run of rocky coves and 1940s beach houses.
A Blue Flag beach since 2008
Camps Bay Beach kept its Blue Flag for the 2026/27 season and has a tidal pool and summer lifeguards. Dogs are not allowed from 9:00 to 18:00 between November and March.
Coves at the southern end
Bakoven takes its name from an offshore rock shaped like an oven door. It has sheltered coves, a sea rescue base and a small swimming beach off Beta Close.
The Glen and mountain trails
The Big and Little Glen are the suburb's public green spaces. Above the houses, Table Mountain National Park footpaths link Camps Bay with the Pipe Track, Back Table and the Twelve Apostles.
Camps Bay High and Primary
Camps Bay High School, for Grades 8 to 12, is on Lower Kloof Road, and Camps Bay Primary School is on Dunkeld Road, so children can do their whole schooling in the suburb.
MyCiTi 106 and 107
Routes 106 and 107 link Camps Bay to the Civic Centre via Kloof Nek, where riders can change to the free 110 Table Mountain shuttle. A new Argyle stop, near Argyle Street and Lincoln Road, opened on 4 April 2026.
Victoria Road strip
Restaurants, cafés and sundowner bars face the beach across Victoria Road, and the Promenade is the suburb's main shopping centre, on the same stretch.

What residents deal with
A young CID
The Camps Bay City Improvement District began on 1 July 2024 and runs to June 2029, with patrols, CCTV with number-plate recognition and extra cleaning; its boundary reaches about 650 m of Victoria Road beyond Bakoven. Its people-first homelessness programme, with paid Community Stewards, was reported in March 2026.
Fire on the slopes
In September 2025 a wildfire burned about 25 ha of mountain above Camps Bay and closed the trails to the Twelve Apostles. Another blaze hit the slopes between Hout Bay and Camps Bay in January 2026.
Electricity upgrades
On 3 August 2026 the City warned customers in Camps Bay, Clifton and Sea Point of planned supply interruptions for critical maintenance on the network.
Holiday letting under review
The City's draft Short-Term Letting By-Law (August 2026) would make every listing register, and could charge commercial rates on homes available for more than 50 % of the year. Public comment closed on 5 October 2026.
